KEVIN RATHBUN WIN CHOPPED!
ATLANTA, GA., - August 12, 2013: On
Sunday, August 11, 2013, Kevin Rathbun won the Food Network's Chopped
television show. In it, he appeared
alongside his brother, Kent Rathbun.
With four brothers dualing against each other, it was the first time that
four brothers appeared on the Chopped program. All four brothers have previously been featured on Iron Chef
America and Kevin and Kent Rathbun have been winners on Iron Chef America.
The ingredients for the first course were Cape Gooseberries, Falooda Glass Noodles, Watercress and Bacalao. With twenty minutes to complete the three-course dinner, only one chef would end up being the champ. Kevin's first dish included Brandade with Gooseberry Vinaigrette. One of the judge responded by saying, "I love what you did with the Bacalao." Kevin's second dishes ingredients were cinnamon rolls, and beef tip cat. With that, he made Beef Tip Cap Steak with Green Bean Pesto and a Sweet and Savory Bread Pudding. The judges responded by saying that "Kevin did a fantastic job with his presentation and the green bean pesto was fantastic." For dessert, Kevin's basket of ingredients included Spaetzle, Moustalevria, Walnuts, and Japanese Cola Candy. Kevin created a Cream Cheese Dough Empanada. The judges responded with comments that included, "The cream cheese dough melts in your mouth."
Kevin's favorite charity that benefited from his winning was the Atlanta Community Food Bank. He donated the $10,000.00 to the ACVB via The Food Network. The total amount of money will feed eighty thousand people.
